British Food Fortnight Competition

The results from this year’s British Food Festival are in.

In this year’s challenge, schools asked pupils to use seasonal British ingredients to design and cook a meal that contains a healthy balance of food groups plus at least two of our five-a-day portions of fruit or veg.

The winning school is Mosslands in Wallasey, and the winning recipe comes from year ten student Kyle Jones, from Moreton.

Kyle came up with a tasty sounding recipe called Seasonal September Stew. On Friday 2nd October, professional chef Pat Oakes, the ‘Fun Food Chef’, performed a cooking demonstration for Mosslands students and served up Kyle’s dish to special guest, Mike Withy, Wirral’s Sports Development Chief.

Gareth Hill, from NHS Wirral’s Healthy Schools Team, says: “We had some cracking entries but we chose Kyle’s as his recipe was simple, hearty, nutritious and uses a good balance of ingredients. We’re sure Pat’s demonstration got the pupils of Mosslands really interested in practical cookery.”
