The Fun Food Chef and the Environment.

Like many of you, here at The Fun Food Chef we strive to continually review and develop our practices that have an impact on our environment. This is done locally on Wirral, the UK and on a global basis.

This may seem impossible for a small company or individual like you, but just think, simply by buying free range local chicken for you to enjoy, we have reduced the need for airmiles, and reduced road miles, just by helping to remove the demand to import cheaper, inferior meat from around the world. Oh yes, and also helped the local economy.

Again a simple example is by The Fun Food Chef only using Eco friendly detergents we have reduced the chemicals entering the Wirral sewage system and the pollution into the wider sea.

Meat Fish & Vegetables - We will buy all our meat locally and whilst Wirral does not have a massive amount of beef and pork live stock, North Wales does and is excellent in quality. the beef we use is the fantastic Welsh Black (pictured left) and the pork breed the Gloucester Old Spot (below).

Our lamb however is usually from Burton Marshes on Wirral and at the furthest North Wales. The breed is the Suffolk pictured left. Should you require any game it will be sourced once again through the local butcher and is from the Grosvenor Estate.

All our chickens are from Cheshire and the eggs are from Greasby. Both are free range.  and where we can we will source our vegetables locally. All the fish used is also from sustainable stocks. For further information about our suppliers please follow this link:  Useful Links

Fair Trade We support fair trade products when using products that can not be sourced locally. This helps us ensure sustainable farming, good ingredients and a fair deal to the growers. We aim to use fair trade cotton products when available for T-shirts.

Chemical Products - Where there is an eco alternative to the usual chemical cleaners we use it.

Organic - Whilst we do not only exclusively use organic produce, when appropriate we do. For instance we will only use organic stock cubes as they have no additives and why use all this fabulous fresh produce and add a chemical cube for seasoning? When preparing vegetable plots for schools we encourage the use of organic sustainable composts to be used.

Recycling - This is extremely important to us and this includes composting in our own wormery and the use of recycled paper for our stationery. We will also be using compostable products to present our food in very soon.
